MY STORY:

I began suffering from severe allergy and sinus problems in the early 1980's as a young child.  I had year round sneezing, coughing, itchy, watery eyes and congestion.  My allergies were so severe they affected my school work, my sleep, my eating, my social life, and just about every other aspect of my life. Over the years, I tried a lot of different medications, pills, potions, shots, and anything else the medical men thought would "help".

Fast forward to May 1996.  There I am.  Still sneezing.  Still coughing.  Still stopped up, worse now than ever before.  By now I have been on allergy shots for many years (which obviously wasn't helping) but I still took them twice a week just like "they" told me to.  I had just finished up at Shawnee State University and had no idea what I was going to do next.  I got a call from a friend who was in Chiropractic school in St. Louis.  He said he loved it and thought I should give it a try.  So I said "Why not?".  It's not like I had anything better to do.  It was either keep going to school or get a real job.  That wasn't a very tough choice.  A couple days later I packed up my stuff and move to St. Louis to go to Chiropractic school.  I moved in with two guys that did something called Upper Cervical Chiropractic and they hung out with about five or six other students that did the same thing. They were the only ones in the entire school that did Upper Cervical and most of the other students thought they were crazy for the things they believed about Chiropractic.  Even the instructors and the president of the college didn't believe in Upper Cervical.  Anyway, these Upper Cervical guys all gathered around when I took my allergy shots and told me they could get my allergies to go away if they adjusted me and I stopped taking my shots.  So now I'm 500 miles from home and surrounded by crazy people.  But they were very persistent.  Finally I agreed to stop taking my allergy shots and let them adjust me.  It was one of my roommates that was going to adjust me and he assured me that he had done it before.  I got on the adjusting table and realized that everyone was gathered around watching.  Then he adjusted me. I had NEVER felt anything like it.  I wasn't sure if it was good or bad, but I knew something happened.  They told me to lie down on the floor for 20 minutes and then I could get up.  As I was lying there, my nose started pouring out gunk, my eyes would not stop watering, and my ears were popping from pressure changes.  Oh, and I also found out that was the first time he had ever adjusted anyone.  I was mad.  I thought they made me worse.  They told me this was normal and not to worry.  I worried.

I had a chemistry test the next morning at 7 AM.  I couldn't study for it because every time I looked down my nose would start pouring and I would start sneezing.  I decided to go to bed rather than try to study with all of the distractions.  When I woke up the next morning, I felt as bad as I had the night before.  When I went to class to take the test I had to hold a wad of paper towels under my nose during the test.  My eyes were watering so badly that I could barely read the questions.  Top that off with the frustration of being worse than before and taking the test was VERY difficult.  Needless to say, I didn't do very well on the test.  I went back to my apartment afterwards to try to get some rest because I was exhausted from not getting much sleep the night before.  I woke up from my nap about three or four hours later and I noticed something was different.  My nose wasn't running, my eyes were not watering, and I didn't feel the pressure in my ears. It was the best I had felt in years.  I remember wondering  how long it would last.  I felt great the rest of the day, and the next day, and the next day, and so on. Pretty soon I started to realize that I was better.  Completely better.  And I didn't have to take any more shots or pills.

It was around that time that I started to realize that this is what I have been called to do. That is an amazing feeling.  Actually knowing beyond the shadow of a doubt what you are supposed to do with your life.  I know a lot of people don't get to experience that feeling.  I thank God that He let me know that feeling.  Without Him none of it would be possible. I have now been 100% medication free since May of 1996!
